Vol. 420 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sub-Regional Review Committees.

Michael Ferris

Question:

58 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Finance if, in view of the experience of the operation of the seven sub-regions by his Department, he proposes to revise or change the structures of these regions in the context of the Delors II package; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the sub-regional Review Committees established under the provisions of the Community Support Framework which governs the EC Structural Fund assistance to Ireland over the period 1989 to 1993.

The Delors II Package includes an outline of EC Commission proposals for the EC Structural Funds commencing in 1994. However, the detailed provisions governing the administration of the Funds in the post 1993 round have yet to be discussed at Community level. It is, therefore, too early to say what arrangements will apply as regards the sub-regional Review Committees in the next round.
As part of the preparations for the post 1993 Structural Funds, I have recently requested the existing Review Committees to prepare proposals for consideration in the context of preparation of a national submission to the EC authorities early in 1993.
