Vol. 420 No. 5

Written Answers. - Bonding Scheme for Meat Trade.

Austin Deasy

Question:

115 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he intends to introduce a bonding scheme for firms involved in the livestock and meat trade to safeguard producers and suppliers in areas where companies collapse; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

At the outset of the UMP receivership, I asked my Department to examine the implications of introducing arrangements to protect suppliers of livestock against financial loss in the event of the commercial failure of processing firms. This examination is not yet completed.
