Vol. 420 No. 7

Written Answers. - Castlebar Hospital Funding.

Enda Kenny

Question:

73 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health the present position regarding funding for a dialysis unit at Castlebar General Hospital, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The position is that my Department has already indicated to the Western Health Board that it has no objection in principle to the establishment of such a unit at Castlebar General Hospital. The Western Health Board has received an allocation of £140 million approximately for the provision of health services in 1992. The funding of the Dialysis Unit at Castlebar Hospital is a matter for the Western Health Board in the first instance, having regard to its overall resouces and the priority it attaches to this particular service.
