Vol. 420 No. 9

Written Answers. - Southern Health Board Interest Payment.

Bernard Allen

Question:

139 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement regarding recent reports that the Southern Health Board had to pay penal interest of £21,878 in the years 1988 and 1989 because of late payments of PAYE and PRSI to the Revenue Commissioners as identified by the Local Government Auditors Report.

The Local Government Auditors Report for 1989, which will be circulated shortly in accordance with usual procedure to the Health Board, identifies a penalty of £21,878 as having been incurred in 1989. I understand from the Health Board that this was a result of a delay in forwarding one month's PAYE/PRSI payment. There was no question of a penalty for 1988.
