Question:60 Mr. J. Higgins asked the Minister for Energy if he will give details in respect of his Department of (a) the legislation promised in the Oireachtas since 1989 and (b) the legislation introduced to the Oireachtas; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 20 and 60 together.
Since 1989 the following legislation has been promised in the Oireachtas: 1. the Radiological Protection Bill; 2. the Turf Development Bill; 3. the Gas (Amendment) Bill. Since the same time the following legislation has been introduced in the Oireachtas: the Turf Development Bill — enacted 1990; the Radiological Protection Bill — enacted 1991.
As regards the proposed gas legislation, this is currently being drafted and a Bill will be introduced in the House at the earliest possible date.
There is no legislation in my area of responsibility which has been enacted by the Oireachtas but which has not yet come into effect.
