Vol. 421 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tax Clearance on Grant Payment.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

96 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Finance if he can provide the appropriate tax clearance so that the disabled persons grant payment can be released by Waterford Corporation to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that an application for a tax clearance certificate in connection with the above grant was received in the Collector-General's Office on 21st March, 1991 from the building firm employed by the disabled person in question. The application was refused by the Collector-General on 22nd March, 1991 because of arrears of tax owed by this firm. While the firm in question has since made some payments in respect of those liabilities, arrears of Income Tax, VAT and PAYE/PRSI remain outstanding in this case.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that they will issue a tax clearance certificate in this case as soon as the tax affairs of the applicant are brought completely up to date or a suitable arrangement to pay these arrears is formally agreed with the Collector-General's Office.
