Vol. 421 No. 5

Written Answers. - South-Eastern Health Board Orthopaedic Services.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

38 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health if he will outline his views on the reorganisation of orthopaedic services in the South-Eastern Health Board area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In response to a request by the South-Eastern Health Board for a fifth consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, it was decided that a major review of orthopaedic services in the area should be undertaken jointly by Comhairle na nOspidéal and the Department of Health.

I understand that the report of the review group is currently being considered by the General Hospitals Committee of the South-Eastern Health Board and that it will be brought before the Board at its next meeting.

In view of this, I do not intend making a statement until the Board has completed its deliberations on the matter.
