Vol. 421 No. 5

Written Answers. - VHI Levy Payment.

Michael Creed

Question:

48 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Health whether the VHI have paid the £3 million levied on them by his Department; if he will outline the services which have been provided with this money; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The £3 million levy has not yet been paid over but is due to be paid into the Exchequer on or before 30th June, 1992. The £3 million is in aid of the Health Vote and will therefore contribute to the maintenance of services for the population in general, including members of the Voluntary Health Insurance Board's schemes. It has been agreed that the normal increases in charges for private and semi-private accommodation will be deferred until August 1993. This should result in savings to the VHI of about £3 million.
