Vol. 421 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Secretarial Services.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

100 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the number of (1) vocational education committee schools in County Kildare having a requirement for secretarial and maintenance services though not currently in receipt of same and (2) the number of outstanding applications for such services on hand at his Department for County Kildare; when it is expected that all such requirements are likely to be met; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Clerical and maintenance staff are allocated to Vocational Education Committees on a scheme basis and it is a matter for each vocational education committee to deploy such staff as it deems appropriate to its requirements.

It is understood that County Kildare Vocational Education Committee has significant clerical and full caretaking services at all of the ten schools of its scheme.

The committee was allocated two additional maintenance posts in 1990 and two extra grade 3 clerical posts in 1991 and my Department has no request for additional staff on hands at present.
