Vol. 421 No. 8

Written Answers. - County Cavan New School.

Andrew Boylan

Question:

122 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Education when his Department received the local contribution towards the building of a new school at Ballinagh, County Cavan; when work is likely to commence on the building of the new school; if his attention has been drawn to (a) the poor condition of the present school where 180 pupils attend and (b) that 43 infants are expected to start school in September 1992; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that there is adequate accommodation at this school for the anticipated enrolments in September.

The need for a major upgrading of the accommodation is fully accepted and work will be put in hand as soon as resources permit. In view of the extent of other commitments and priorities it is not possible to say at this stage when such work will commence.

The question of seeking a local contribution will not arise until the project is further advanced.
