Written Answers. - Ministerial Staff.

Question:

197 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will give details of the total number of staff, either full-time or part-time, working (a) in his private ministerial office, (b) in his constituency office and (c) elsewhere in his Department but working personally for him; if he will outline (1) the number, if any, working for him under consultancy agreements or contracts and (2) the salary level or fees payable in each case; and if he will list the names of the people in each case.

The details sought by the Deputy on staffing numbers and salary levels are set out below; it is not customary to provide the names of the individuals involved. Other than the staff of the private and constituency offices, no other officers of the Department work for the Minister for Foreign Affairs personally.

Private Office

The Private Office of the Minister is staffed by the Private Secretary, two Executive Officers, two Clerical Officers and one Clerical Assistant/Typist. These posts are filled on a full-time basis by established civil servants.

Constituency Office

There are three staff employed under contract on a full-time basis in the constituency office of the Minister. Their respective salaries are as follows:— £17,644 per annum; £172.86 per week plus a weekly allowance of £14.93 and £178.44 per week.

An appointment of special adviser to the Minister has been made on a part-time, consultancy basis at a fee of £15 per hour, plus VAT, subject to a maximum of 30 hours per week.
