Vol. 421 No. 8

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Allowances.

Dick Spring

Question:

58 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Defence if, in view of remarks made at the recent PDFORRA Conference he will outline any specific plans he has to increase uniform/equipment allowances for Irish army troops serving in Border areas; and if he will publish a timetable for the implementation of the increase.

Defence Force Regulations provide for the issue of a wide range of articles of uniform, necessaries and protective clothing for troops for wear on various occasions including operational duties in the Border areas and elsewhere. The range and scale of issue to troops in Border areas are at present being examined.
