Vol. 421 No. 9

Written Answers. - EC Directives.

Mervyn Taylor

Question:

119 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will make a statement outlining the EC Directives, for which he is responsible, which have not been implemented and the date by which each such Directive should have been implemented.

As indicated in my reply to a similar question on 27 May last, the only EC Directive applicable to my Department which has not yet been implemented is Directive 86/613/EC which concerns access to social insurance coverage for spouses of self-employed workers. The relevant provisions in this Directive should have been implemented not later than 30 June 1989.

The question of implementing this Directive is currently being examined by the National Pensions Board in the context of their report on a new pension system. Possible legislation in this area will be considered in the light of that report.
