Vol. 422 No. 1

Written Answers. - University College Hospital, Galway.

Frank Fahey

Question:

73 Mr. F. Fahey asked the Minister for Health when he will give a decision on the protective development plan submitted by the Western Health Board for the University College Hospital, Galway on 23 February 1991, together with a request for approval to continue the planning process of the hospital development; and if he will outline his views on the protective development plan and its implementation.

Question:

74 Mr. Fahey asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the present position with regard to the request for approval on an essential interim developments application at University College Hospital, Galway in order to provide (a) additional bed accommodation (b) X-ray facilities, (c) additional operating theatres and (d) accident/emergency department facilities with overnight observation beds; and if he will give a progress report on the joint working party set up by his predecessor in May 1991, to examine the priority requirements of the hospital.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 73 and 74 together.

A joint working group comprising representatives of the Western Health Board and my Department have been established to consider the short and medium-term development requirements for all services at University College Hospital, Galway. The group are currently considering the matter and expect to report later in the year.
