Vol. 422 No. 1

Written Answers. - Driving Licence Application.

Bernard Allen

Question:

80 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment if he will give a response to representations made by a person (details supplied) in County Cork who attempted to renew his driving licence but was told that he would have to undergo a driving test once again because his licence expired on 3 October 1986, even though this person had already taken a driving test in 1972.

I replied on 3 April last to the Deputy's representations in this case.

As I then indicated, the law provides that an applicant for a driving licence who has not held such a licence within the previous five years must produce a certificate of competency which can only be obtained by passing a driving test. I have no power to waive this provision in individual cases.
