Edward Nealon

Question:

149 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education the total number of students attending full-time courses at Sligo Regional Technical College during the past academic year; and the total number of these students who were in receipt of ESF grants.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 148 and 149 together.

In the 1991-92 academic year there were 1551 students enrolled in full-time courses at Sligo Regional Technical College. Of these 1,400 received maintenance grants arising from their attendance on EC-aided programmes. The maintenance grants were partially funded from the European Social Fund in respect of about 1,200 of the students.

The grant paid by my Department in respect of students attending EC-aided programmes during the academic year 1990-91 was £1.92 million, of which approximately £1 million came from the European Social Fund.
