Vol. 422 No. 4

Written Answers. - Community Milk Quota Scheme.

Paul McGrath

Question:

207 Mr. McGrath asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline (a) the number of farmers who opted into the Community milk quota buy-up scheme under Council Regulation EEC No. 804/68 and Commission Regulation EEC No. 2349/91, (b) the volume of milk involved, (c) when these farmers can expect their first payment under this scheme.

The number of farmers who have been accepted into the Community milk quota buy-up scheme came to 1,012. The volume of milk quota surrendered amounts to approximately 10.8 million gallons.

The first of the five annual payments due to participants in the scheme will be paid following verification of the exact amount of quota surrendered and confirmation that the producers involved had ceased milk production definitively by 31 March 1992. It is hoped to be in a position to make the first payment before the end of August this year.
