Vol. 422 No. 4

Written Answers. - Hare Coursing.

Alan Shatter

Question:

38 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Finance whether it is intended to institute court proceedings following the Irish Coursing Club's breach of condition 9 of the licence issued in respect of coursing, which requires that hares which become sick or injured while in captivity may not be coursed, having regard to the reply to Parliamentary Question No. 59 by the Minister for Agriculture and Food on 28 April 1992.

I am aware that following post mortem analysis, some hares were found to be infected by worms and coccidiosis but I understand there was no evidence of this prior to the hares being coursed. The Garda are investigating the matter and any decision to issue prosecution proceedings will be a matter for them.
