Emmet Stagg

Question:

201 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education the nature of the criteria used in adjusting the amounts given to each Vocational Education Committee in the State for youth and sports grants in each of the years 1991 and 1992; and the reason therefor.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 200 and 201 together

Details of the amounts of money granted to each of the vocational education committees for youth and sport grant purposes in each of the years 1991 and 1992 are attached in the form of a tabular statement.

The allocation has been made in the past under a number of headings reflecting both the size of each committee's administrative area and assistance for special projects courses for the disadvantaged. In order to increase flexibility at local level, it has been decided to allocate the funds to each vocational education committee as one composite grant from 1992 on and to move towards an allocation more closely related to overall population.
