Vol. 423 No. 1

Written Answers. - Grant Payment.

Ned O'Keeffe

Question:

223 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in having a higher education grant approved in respect of a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

Cork County Council is the body statutorily entrusted with the administration of the Higher Education Grants Scheme in this case. Cork County Council refused a grant in respect of the 1991/92 academic year on the basis that the reckonable income in the case exceeded the income limit in the scheme. The matter has been appealed to the Council which is considering the matter further in consultation with my Department. I understand that the Council has awarded a grant of full fees and partial maintenance to the person in question for the 1992/93 academic year.
