Vol. 423 No. 4

Written Answers. - Notifiable Diseases.

Nuala Fennell

Question:

173 Mrs. Fennell asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there is no official procedure for dealing with outbreaks of disease among hares at coursing clubs; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Diseases of Animals Act, 1966, sets down a list of notifiable diseases and obliges any persons having in their possession or under their charge an animal or carcase which, to their knowledge, is affected or is suspected of being affected with a notifiable disease, to notify the relevant authorities.

In the case of any other disease, it is a matter for the person in charge of the animal to consult with a veterinary practitioner and to have appropriate treatment administered.
