Vol. 423 No. 8

Written Answers. - River Lee (Cork) Crossing.

Peter Barry

Question:

71 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the down-river crossing of the River Lee; when design work will be completed; when tenders will be invited; and when work will commence.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

189 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the Lee downstream river crossing; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 71 and 189 together.

The environmental impact assessment of this project is now at an advanced stage and I expect that a decision in the matter will be made in the near future. Without prejudice to the statutory procedures involved, the best estimate is for a start up of construction in 1994. It will be a matter for the local authority to determine the exact timing of design work and invitation of tenders so as to achieve the commencement target.
