Vol. 424 No. 1

Written Answers. - VHI Negotiations.

Peter Barry

Question:

57 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Health if he will outline the current negotiations between the VHI and the private hospitals; and if the advent of EC health insurance companies will impinge on the effectiveness of the VHI and their share of the market.

Arrangements between VHI and private hospitals are entirely a matter for conclusion between VHI and the authorities of the private hospitals. Having regard to its present position in the market and the statutory provisions under which health insurance will operate subsequent to 1994, the VHI is well placed to maintain effectiveness and a dominant position in the market for the foreseeable future.
