The wall to which the Deputy refers seems to be the rubble masonry wall about one metre high which is the boundary between prison property and private property and is outside the high wall that perimeters the custodial precincts of Mountjoy.
It would not be proper for my Department to effect works to this wall at public expense for the sole purpose of inhibiting intrusion onto private property. As with occupiers generally, responsibility for practical precautions to ensure the safety of their houses remain with the occupiers. It may, in any event, be impracticable to carry out works of the nature suggested because of structures which have been built against and on the wall by the occupants over the years.
