Vol. 424 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Council Housing Loan.

Seán Power

Question:

95 Mr. Power asked the Minister for the Environment if he will remove the requirement placed on an applicant for a county council housing loan to produce a letter of refusal for such a loan from a bank or building society.

Publicly funded house purchase loans schemes were always intended for those who were unable to obtain loans suitable to their needs from the commercial lending agencies. The requirement that local authority loan applicants produce evidence of refusal of a loan from a bank and building society is merely a means of giving effect to this intention and I have no proposal to change it.
