Vol. 424 No. 8

Written Answers. - Fishing Vessel Collision.

Ivan Yates

Question:

33 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Marine who is conducting the inquiry into the sinking of a trawler (details supplied); and when the report is expected to be available.

The inquiry into the collision between the Irish fishing vessel Orchidee and the French fishing vessel Agena on 22 September 1992 is being conducted by Capt. Barry McGrath, a Marine Surveyor of my Department. The incident occurred 50 miles off the south east coast i.e. outside Irish territorial waters.

The French authorities are carrying out their own inquiry into the incident and my Department is in communication with the French authorities in the matter. A report will be made available as soon as possible after completion of the investigation.
