1 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Defence whether it is intended to employ civilian general operatives and tradespersons within his Department and the Defence Forces in 1992; and if will make a statement on the matter.
My Department currently employs approximately 1,400 civilian employees with the Defence Forces. These include approximately 840 general operatives and tradespersons, mainly engaged with the Corps of Engineers. The question of filling any vacancies which may arise is kept under review in the light of the requirement of the Defence Forces.
