Vol. 424 No. 10

Ceisteanna — Questions. Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants Scheme.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

84 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education when a decision will be made in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare who has applied for a higher education grant; the reason it was indicated on 20 October last that the grant had been approved and subsequently indicated that the grant had not been approved since the status of the course being undertaken had not been established; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Kildare County Council is the body statutorily entrusted with the administration of the higher education grants scheme in this case.

The council recently sought clarification from my Department that the course in question is an approved course for the purposes of the higher education grants scheme. My Department informed the council on 30 October 1992 that the course is so approved and that a grant has been awarded subject to the terms of the scheme.
