Vol. 425 No. 7

Written Answers. - Loss of Entitlement.

Pat Rabbitte

Question:

160 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason widows receiving the widow's pension and half disability benefit entitlement will lose their disability benefit entitlement in July 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Women in receipt of widow's pension and certain similar payments from my Department are entitled to receive disability benefit at half the normal rate for up to a maximum of 15 months, subject to the usual PRSI contribution conditions. A person who has been paid disability benefit for the maximum period can requality for a further 15 months on payment of a further 13 PRSI contributions. There are no plans to change these arrangements.
