Michael Creed

Dermot Ahern

Question:

548 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the need for a remedial teacher to be appointed to St. Nicholas primary school, Stabannon, County Louth; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Dermot Ahern

Question:

550 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that three schools (details supplied) in County Louth have joined together to apply for a shared remedial teacher; if she will give their application favourable consideration; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 527, 548 and 550 together.

I have received an application for a remedial teacher from the schools in question. I am currently examining the scope for deployment of additional teaching resources to children with special educational needs. The question of remedial teaching posts will form a key element in this consideration. In this regard, the Programme for a Partnership in Government provides for the recruitment of 500 additional remedial teachers by September, 1996.
