Question:

536 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Education if she will recommend the appointment of a guidance teacher to a whole time post, on an ex-quota basis, to St. Annes Community College, Killaloe, County Clare where there will be 432 students enrolled in September, 1993 as per the Programme for Economic and Social Progress agreement.

Question:

537 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Education the number of career guidance teachers appointed to second level schools on an ex-quota basis during 1992/1993 as per the Programme for Economic and Social Progress agreement; and if she will give the names of each school; and the numbers enrolled in each case.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 536 and 537 together.

The enrolment in St. Anne's Community College was not sufficiently high to qualify for the guidance provision in 1992/93. The position in regard to the school year 1993/94 is at present under consideration.

It is not normal practice for my Department to give details of staffing arrangements in individual schools.

A total of 62 schools—40 secondary, 17 vocational and 5 community/comprehensive — qualified in 1992/93 for the allocation in respect of guidance in accordance with the provisions of the Programme for Economic and Social Progress.

I should add that it is open to the Chief Executive Officer of County Clare Vocational Education Committee to allocate a post in respect of guidance to this school from within the overall approved teacher allocation for the County Clare vocational education committee Scheme.
