Vol. 425 No. 8

Written Answers. - Palmerstown (Dublin) Traffic Signals.

Austin Currie

Question:

79 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment when he intends to reply to representations conveyed to him by Dublin County Council following a meeting in July, 1992, seeking the necessary funds, as a matter of urgency, to have traffic control signals installed at the junction of Kennelsfort Road and Wheatfield Road, Palmerstown, Dublin 20; and if he will make a statement on the matter in view of the traffic situation at this location which poses a serious threat particularly to elderly people.

The reply to Question No. 178 of 20 October 1992 set out the position in relation to a request from Dublin County Council for the provision of funding for traffic signals at the junction of the Kennelsfort Road and Wheatfield Road, Palmerstown. As the roads in question are non-national roads, responsibility for the provision of signals rests with Dublin County Council, in consultation with the Garda, and the cost falls to be financed from the council's own resources, supplemented by the discretionary grants paid annually for such roads. A reply to this effect issued to the County Council on 16 October 1992.
