Vol. 425 No. 8

Written Answers. - Appointment of Remedial Teachers.

Liz McManus

Question:

107 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education if she will appoint a remedial teacher for St. Brigid's Girls Primary School in Kilcoole, County Wicklow.

Ray Burke

Question:

112 Mr. R. Burke asked the Minister for Education if she will have arrangements made for the appointment of a remedial teacher to be shared between Garristown, Naul and Ballyboughal national schools, County Dublin, in view of the need which exists in the area.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 107 and 112 together.

I am currently examining the scope for deployment of additional teaching resources to children with special educational needs. The appointment of remedial teachers will form a key element in this consideration. In this connection, the Programme for a Partnership Government provides for the recruitment of 500 remedial teachers by September 1996.
