Vol. 425 No. 8

Written Answers. - Scout Jamboree.

Charles Flanagan

Question:

109 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the Catholic Boy Scouts of Ireland, the Scout Association of Ireland and the UK Scout Association in Northern Ireland are jointly organising a Scout Jamboree in July, 1993, in Ballyfin, County Laois, which will cater for approximately 5,000 young people and 1,000 adult leaders with participants from approximately 17 countries including Canada, Australia and Eastern European countries; if, having regard to the importance of the event, consideration will be given to the provision of funding from the national lottery or otherwise towards the employment of a full time camp administrator in an effort to defray expenses; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

An application for assistance towards the cost of the Scout Jamboree in July 1993 will be considered shortly when the grant allocations for youth work services for 1993 are being decided.
