Vol. 426 No. 1

Written Answers. - Disadvantaged Areas Scheme.

Michael Creed

Question:

134 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the position with regard to the extension of and reclassification within the disadvantaged areas.

The present position is that the disadvantaged areas appeals panel is analysing in detail all data from the survey of the 10,000 townlands under appeal for inclusion in the disadvantaged areas. As soon as the panel completes its analysis of areas seeking inclusion it will turn its attention to the preparation of recommendations on the areas under appeal for reclassification. Because of the size and complexity of the task it is not easy to predict when the entire appeals process will be finalised. However, both my Department and the Appeals Panel are anxious to complete the job as soon as possible.
