Question:

23 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the specific functions assigned to the Minister of State at the Department of Enterprise and Employment, Deputy Séamus Brennan; and whether the salary arrangements made in respect of this Minister of State are the same as those in respect of the other Ministers of State.

Responsibility for the specific areas listed has been assigned to Deputy Seamus Brennan, Minister of State with responsibility for commerce and technology: Commerce — insurance, supervision of solvency of insurance companies; insurance, supervision of cost of affairs of insurance; competition policy, including the Competition Authority; mergers and takeovers; company law; Companies Registration Office; Registry of Friendly Societies, and Irish Steel; technology — national and international programmes in science and technology; EOLAS policy and administration, including standards and quality.

In line with other Ministers of State, the Minister of State, Deputy Brennan is being paid the rate of salary appropriate to Ministers of State, as determined by the Government.
