32 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of redundancies notified in the last quarter of 1992; the way in which this compares with the last quarter of 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
The number of notifications of proposed redundancies notified to my Department in the last quarter of 1992 was 5,331. This compares with a total of 4,216 for the same period in 1991. The main reason for the increase in the 1992 figure vis-à-vis that for 1991 would appear to be the continuing impact on jobs of the current international recession.
