Vol. 426 No. 3

Written Answers. - Forestry Development Regulations.

Enda Kenny

Question:

76 Mr. E. Kenny asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if he has satisfied himself with the regulations governing the distance within which the planting of forestry which is grant aided may take place; if he will give a list of the current regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department has set out the requirements for grant-aided forestry projects in the following publications: Forestry Operational Programme 1989-1993; Operational Programme for Rural Development; Forest Service Grants; Grants for Private Forestry; Forestry and the Landscape Guidelines; Forestry and Archaeology Guidelines; and Forestry and Fisheries Guidelines.

These publications cover, inter alia, the minimum distance that forestry development must be kept back from occupied buildings, archaeological sites and monuments, roads, fisheries etc. and I am satisfied that they will ensure that forestry developments are carried out in an environmentally friendly manner.

Copies of the publications have been placed in the Library of the House.
