Vol. 426 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Michael Noonan

Question:

181 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for the Environment the policy changes, if any, which underpin the increases or decreases in the subheads in votes control by his Department; and if he will make a statement on whether increased or reduced services will be provided by his Department in 1993.

My Department's estimate for 1993 is 10 per cent higher than the 1992 provisional outturn and does not imply any reduction in the services provided by the Department. Over 90 per cent of the expenditure provided for is in respect of grants to local authorities. There will be increased activity by the authorities in the major areas of housing, roads and water and sewerage schemes. In relation to subhead C.2 (Local Improvements Scheme), the reduced provision will be offset by an increase in the local contribution for projects carried out under the scheme.
