Vol. 426 No. 6

Written Answers. - New Ross (Wexford) School.

Question:

160 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the fact that there is a loss of heat and consequently a waste of tax-payers money in the central area at New Ross Vocational College, that the pathway surrounding the central area is quite dangerous after rainfall, and that there have been a number of accidents as a consequence; if she will approve the proposal by County Wexford vocational education committee to approve cover for the central area; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the problems associated with the central walkway area at New Ross Vocational School. These have been the subject of discussions with County Wexford Vocational Education Committee. A proposal to cover the area was rejected because of the need to retain toilet ventilation, and fire safety considerations.

An alternative proposal has been suggested by the chief executive officer to deal with the problem of heat loss. The Department is now awaiting details of this proposal.
