Vol. 426 No. 6

Written Answers. - Duncannon (Wexford) Pier.

Ivan Yates

Question:

15 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for the Marine if he will ensure that substantial works are carried out on the development of Duncannon Pier in County Wexford in 1993; if the dredging programme will be implemented; if he will ensure that this pier will be included in the capital programme expenditure under his Department, and that there will be full liaison with the local fishing interests in relation to the outline development plan for the pier and harbour area; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Department of the Marine is currently implementing a fishery harbour development programme covering the period 1989 to 1993. This programme, which was drawn up following consultation with all maritime local authorities, including Wexford County Council, made provision for development of Duncannon Pier, County Wexford. To this end, a site investigation costing £20,000 was carried out by the Department of the Marine during 1992. The results of this investigation will be used in the design of any development at the pier.

Due to slower than anticipated progress in implementing the current development programme, 1989-93, and severe financial constraints, it will not be possible to carry out any development works at Duncannon Pier during 1993.
