Written Answers. - Removal Expenses.

Question:

76 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in the payment of removal expenses in accordance with official Circular No. 6/89 to Customs Officers who have been transferred from Dundalk, County Louth and other Border posts; if he has responded to representations from the officers Trade Union the Public Service Executive Union; the number of officers who have applied and been sanctioned; the number who have applied and have not been sanctioned; the reason for this; when the remaining cases will be sanctioned; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Revenue Commissioners are not aware of any delay in the payment of removal expenses to officials transferred from Dundalk and other Border posts for whom such expenses have been authorised under the terms of Department of Finance Circular 6/89. The Revenue Commissioners have responded to oral representations from the Public Service Executive Union in individual cases.

Forty four applications under Circular 6/89 for removal expenses have been received from officers in Dundalk and other Border areas. In accordance with the terms of the circular, removal expenses have been sanctioned in 33 cases and refused in 11 cases. There are no claims outstanding awaiting a decision for the payment of removal expenses.
