Question:

78 Ms. O'Donnell asked the Minister for Finance if, in the light of the estimate of £4,015 million for Exchequer pay and pensions Table 5, page xiii in the Estimate for Public Services (Abridged Version), 1993, he will give details of the total number of people currently employed who are being paid from this allocation and the total number of people receiving pensions from this allocation; if he will give a breakdown, sector by sector, of the people currently employed and being paid from this allocation, and of the people currently receiving pensions from this allocation for Exchequer pay and pensions.

Statistical data on the numbers serving in the various areas of the public sector are generally available on 1 January each year. The data on numbers employed and in respect of whom a provision is made in the Abridged Estimates Volume are as follows:
