Vol. 427 No. 2

Written Answers. - Enniscorthy (Wexford) Remedial Teacher Appointment.

Avril Doyle

Question:

220 Mrs. Doyle asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in appointing a remedial teacher to Glynn national school, Enniscorthy, County Wexford as the school has met all necessary requirements; and when this post will be filled.

The approval of further remedial teaching posts in a particular year is governed by the teaching resources available in that year.

I am currently examining the scope for development of additional teaching resources to children with special educational needs.

The question of remedial teaching posts will form a key element in this consideration.
In this connection the Programme for a Partnership Government provides for the recruitment of 500 remedial teachers by September, 1996.
