Vol. 427 No. 2

Written Answers. - Census Information.

Austin Currie

Question:

47 Mr. Currie asked the Taoiseach when the information sought in the 1991 census on the number of public and private dwellings in each housing authority area which lack an internal we, a fixed bath or shower, a wash hand basin, a kitchen sink and hot and cold running water at these points will be publicly available.

The 1991 Census of Population contained 24 questions relating to persons and 9 questions relating to household characteristics. The latter questions included the following topics:

1. Nature of Occupancy distinguishing Local Authority rented and six other categories of household tenure;

2. Water supply;

3. Use of a fixed bath or shower; and

4. Sanitary facilities.
No information was requested in the 1991 Census regarding wash hand basins or kitchen sinks.
It is expected that information on household characteristics will be made available before the end of the year.
