Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy O'Donoghue — the need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to investigate the voluntary redundancy scheme in Coillte Teoranta, as many foresters feel that they are being put under unfair pressure to take same; (2) Deputy Kenneally — the decision to locate the outfall pipe from the new sewerage treatment plant in Tramore, County Waterford, at Saleens in the back strand area; (3) Deputy Ferris — the proposals, if any, the Minister for Health has to set up a national programme for treatment of alcoholism which would bring together various strands of expertise in the country; (4) Deputy Byrne — the matter of Raheen national school, County Wexford and the non-inclusion of its refurbishment in the Book of Estimates for 1993; (5) Deputy D. Ahern — the recent arrest in England and subsequent release of Patrick Murphy, formerly of Keady, County Armagh; (6) Deputy Noonan (Limerick East)— whether the Government has decided to sell its share holding in Greencore plc; if the Minister for Finance will confirm that an offer has been made by an American company; and if he will make a statement on the matter; (7) Deputy M. Brennan — the absence of clerical staff to process applications for payment in the farm development service office in Sligo, in view of the fact that 150 farmers are at present awaiting grant payment and the delay is causing great hardship to them; (8) Deputy Rabbitte — the discovery of major inaccuracies in official Government statistics which overstated the strength of the Irish economy over the past five years; (9) Deputy Gilmore — the failure of the health and social services to detect and take appropriate action to stop systematic sexual and physical abuse of a young woman in Kilkenny over a 16-year period as highlighted in a case in the Central Criminal Court on 1 March 1993; (10) Deputy F. Fitzgerald — the need to provide additional support, training and resources and further detailed guidelines for doctors, teachers, nurses and others who may come into contact with victims of child sexual abuse; (11) Deputy Batt O'Keeffe — in view of the existence of accommodation surplus to requirements within health boards, the need for the Minister for Health to exhort management to consider leasing or entering a joint venture for the purpose of providing nursing home care for elderly persons at an affordable cost; (12) Deputy Flanagan — the proposed removal from Dublin of the General Register Office and consequent difficulties for people engaged in genealogical research; (13) An Teachta Donnchadh Mac Fhionn-laoich — an ráiteas ag an deireadh seachtaine seo chaite go bhfuil tionscail Garn Teo, Ard a Rátha, i nDún na nGall ag dúnadh agus timpeall fiche duine ag cailleadh a bpostanna agus chun iarraidh ar an Aire Ealaíon, Cultúir agus Gaeltachta agus ar Údarás na Gaeltachta gníomhú láithreach chun na postanna a chosaint agus a chaomhnú; (14) Deputy Shatter — the terms of reference of the inquiry into the case of the woman whose father was convicted of rape and incest in the Central Criminal Court on Monday, 1 March 1993; (15) Deputy Owen — the incest case in County Kilkenny which has shocked the whole country and the proposals, if any, the Minister for Health has to ensure that health workers, care workers and school authorities are trained and equipped to identify and assist the early detection and treatment of such cases; (16) Deputy Crawford — the fact that clerical staff have been withdrawn from a number of FDS offices and transferred to livestock offices thus causing delays in the processing of applications for various grants; when these staff will be reallocated, in particular in relation to the Cavan FDS office as there are many urgent cases to be dealt with, two of which have already been notified to the Minister (details supplied); (17) Deputy M. Ahern — the plight of self-employed workers in Coillte forestries who are being refused C.2 certificates by tax districts in Cork east; and if there is a national policy by the Revenue authorities to refuse such certificates.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Kenneally, Shatter and Owen.
