Vol. 427 No. 3

Written Answers. - National Flying School.

Edward Nealon

Question:

39 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he proposes to set up a national flying school.

Last August, my predecessor established a Task Force to examine the overall pilot training scenario in Ireland and the feasibility of establishing a National Flying Training School for pilot training up to Airline Transport Pilots Standard.

The Task Force, which was given wide ranging terms of reference, is comprised of representatives of my Department, the major aviation bodies including Aer Lingus, Aer Rianta, Ryanair and Guinness Peat Aviation, the Air Corps and Departments of Finance and Defence.

The Task Force has met on a number of occasions to date, and I am expecting its report shortly. Pending receipt and consideration of that report it would be premature for me to comment further in this matter.
