Vol. 427 No. 3

Committee of Public Accounts: Motion.

I move:

That, in pursuance of Standing Order No. 130 of the Standing Orders relative to Public Business, the Committee of Public Accounts be appointed.

I think it would be important that the legislation governing the Comptroller and Auditor General should be put through this House rather quickly so that that committee can operate from the outset on a new statutory basis. Various items of Government legislative business have crowded it off the Order Paper up to now. May I have an indication from the Minister of State as to when it is expected that that legislation will be put through this House?

The Chair has allowed some latitude in this matter. We must not forget that earlier it was decided that all these matters should be taken without debate.

This is not a debate. It is a question.

It is expected, subject to agreement between the Whips, that we will have the Comptroller and Auditor General Bill before the House next week.

"Without debate" means precisely what it states.

Question put and agreed to.
