Vol. 427 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Clare Water Supply.

Donal Carey

Question:

44 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that areas of Doolin, Kilfenora and Lisdoonvarna, County Clare, suffer from a shortage of water during the tourist season due to the increase in visitor numbers; if he will examine the application of Clare County Council to link this area with the Ennistymon water supply; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Lisdoonvarna Regional Water Supply Scheme has been designed to relieve the water supply difficulties in these areas. Contract documents for site investigations are under consideration in my Department. Having regard to the existing level of commitments under the water and sanitary services programme, I am not in a position to indicate when a decision may be made.
