Vol. 427 No. 4

Written Answers. - Milk Production.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

54 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if a person (details supplied) in County Kerry will be allowed to return to milk production following the termination of his milk cessation scheme in 1993.

The person referred to surrendered his milk quota under the Community milk cessation scheme with effect from 1 April 1987. Under the terms of that scheme, participants surrendered any entitlement to a milk quota and undertook not to produce milk for sale until the end of the milk quota system. In return, they become entitled to a compensatory premium totalling £1.61 per gallon, the final instalment of which is payable this year. As the milk quota system has now been extended until the year 2000, the undertaking given by the person referred to remains binding until then.
